Friendly place with an old school vibe, the servers were all quick with the water refills, I ordered the black angus ribeye steak which was tender and juicy the wife ordered the lobster and seemed pleased
We arrived ahead of our reservation at Dobie's, and were greeted warmly by the hostess. We headed to the bar and enjoyed drinks and conversation with the bartender. Cocktails were quite tasty as my wife enjoyed the peach wine, and I had their muddled brandy Old Fashioned sweet. As we moved to our table, we were greeted by our server, and we enjoyed the relish tray (a nice extra) and the fried mushrooms as appetizers. The potato soup was rich and delicious! My wife ordered tenderloin rare and lobster tail. Both were cooked to perfection! The garlic mashed potatoes were also delicious! I ordered the lobster stuffed salmon which was also equally amazing, and the potato planks were absolutely wonderful! We ended the evening with a grasshopper which was a great way to end our time at Dobie's! The service, food and atmosphere of the place created an excellent experience not to mention we heard "Happy Birthday" sung in Polish and that type of local attention is hard to find anywhere!!
The steaks seem to be MUCH smaller than in the past at the same prices however. The relish tray no longer has liver pate’ on it😞 the breaded mushroom were embarrassing! Don’t bother with them!! service was as pleasant as always. Going back to try something else. Will update!
I had heard great things about Dobies Steakhouse in St Francis and was excited to give it a try. For the most part I was underwhelmed. First a stop at the bar for an Old Fashioned. Nice whiskey pour, then some bottle of red stuff topped with sour soda. It wasn't horrible but didn't really taste like an Old Fashioned. For appetizers we had haystack onion rings and Swedish meatballs. The onion rings were delicious, the meatballs seemed to be out of a frozen bag from Ikea. Next they brought a sort of relish tray (see picture) and bread. The bread was warm and tasty. The relish tray was interesting. It had more meatballs, beets, coleslaw, 3 bean salad, cheese spread (for good crackers in the bread basket). Everything on the tray was fresh and good tasting. Then came a nice dinner salad, nothing fancy but fresh. The dressings seemed homemade and had good flavor. For dinner I had Filet and Fries Shrimp. The shrimp was outstanding, some of the best I ever had. Good size, good breading. The steak was where I was most disappointed. It had a char flavor that reminded me too much of a whopper. The meat was tender, but not a lot of flavor and didn't melt in my mouth. It was served with au jus, maybe to add more flavor. My friend ordered a NY Strip and a Lobster Tail. He said the Lobster Tail was prepared perfectly and he would go back just for that. He thought the strip was a little too fatty and it was good, not great. The service was excellent, both at the bar and at the table. I'll go back to Dobies.
The place needs some updates. The calamari, relish tray, and bread were my favorite part of my meal. I don't mind a blue steak, but if that's how you cook the steaks it should be advertised that way. The jumbo fried shrimp that they say they are known for were subpar at best. I get that deep fried shrimp isn't the most high end dish, but they were rubbery and the breading was not crispy. I really wanted to enjoy the dinner with my family. The prices weren't bad, the service was pretty good, but the place needs some work in order to uphold the supper club atmosphere that is trendy again.
