Pretty decent remodel in an old downtown building. Room was clean and up to date. Breakfast staff was super friendly and accommodating. Plenty of food at all serving times. Busy weekend, hotel was hopping. Easy access to hotel from parking ramp. No need to valet if you are able bodied- ramp connect to hotel by elevator. Stop by valet and they tell you the specifics - which floor to enter from the ramp, etc.
The front desk staff upon check-in was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, once we were in our room, we realized we had 2 double beds versus the 2 queens that we booked directly through Hilton. When we went downstairs to inquire on this, the person working the desk was different than who checked us in. She said sorry but we don't have queen beds here, I continued to state we paid for a room thinking we had 2 queen beds (I had the email from Hilton showing this), not 2 double beds. She just said sorry and continued to mess with the bottled waters on the counter. I left it alone at that point because I was not getting anywhere with the conversation. The room was not anything like we have ever had with a Hilton location. The lighting was horrible. The bathroom toilet kept running. The fan in the bathroom didn't work so taking a shower was extremely steamy. With the overly small room, the steamy bathroom made the entire hotel room steamy:( Not all of the lights worked in the bathroom. There was what appeared to be a small patch of black mold on the wall of the shower as well as soap or something squirted on the shower wall. That was gross because obviously the shower was not cleaned very well after the last people checked out. The breakfast was not too bad. There were not many options, and the food wasn't very hot, but it was better than nothing. The food did have good flavor though.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. My daughter and I stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Milwaukee downtown Saturday night, our stay was a disappointment from check in. When we arrived at 3 to check in we were told our room wasn't ready. We were not able to get into our room until 3:30. We had been in there for 5 or 10 min, when an employee just used his key and walked in. There was no knock. We could have been changing. On our way out Saturday evening I went to the front desk clerk to complain and he just made excuses. Sunday morning when I went to take a shower, there was a dirty washcloth in the shower, disgusting. Since we had to wait so long to get into the room, that should never have happened. A cart with garbage and dirty linens was left by the elevator from the time we checked in, and was still there when we left. The staff was rude when we checked in, and not at all pleasant at any encounter with them. This hotel is expensive enough that you think it would be a bit cleaner.
We booked this hotel due to the excellent location to the Riverside Theatre. We were told that there was no breakfast when we checked in even though they advertised it. They offered nothing other than to suggest other options nearby and when we asked all they told us about was a nearby Starbucks even though there are lots of other cool local options. We arrived in our room to find zero towels but thankfully we didn’t need them right away. We asked at the front desk upon returning from our show at about 11:30pm and were given a short stack and told that was all they had until morning when we could ask for more. Upon inspection, the “towels” they gave us was 4 of the small bath mats for the floor! In addition, in this suite the only working lamps were in the bathroom and sitting areas… we only had the light from the windows and TV where the beds are. We thought booking Hampton was always a safe bet and it turned out we were wrong. The hotel is old and they haven’t updated/maintained it well. The rooms are very out of date with kind of strange floor plans. The beds were comfy so it wasn’t a complete bust. Will definitely check reviews closer next time. This was the biggest disappointment!
Our experience was bad from pretty much the first moment. The front desk was so short staffed there was a line nearly out the door to check in. When we got to the room and opened the connecting doors, there were smashed potato chips and other garbage. (Housekeeping did come clean it when we called.) There were dirty handprints on the ceiling. The air conditioning was out through the hotel, and our rooms were ROASTING. We got box fans to at least move the air, but none of us could sleep. The carpet was severely stained. Breakfast was horrible (again, severely understaffed - though the staff who were there were trying their best). When the toilet started overflowing, and I called down for help...and then a man showed up with a sink plunger (not a toilet plunger...a sink plunger), handed it to me, and he walked away. But the absolute WORST part was that the front desk apparently gave our room away WHILE WE WERE STILL IN IT. Which we discovered not when our keys didn't work...but when an older man and his daughter ENTERED THE ROOM WHILE MY FRIEND WAS UNDRESSED. That last bit was the last straw. The staff were trying...but really, this experience was awful. I am requesting a full refund for both rooms, both nights.
