This was a charming place to stay with boatloads of room in the suite. It was bigger than many places I have lived. Two full bathrooms, a romantic spa tub, a king bed-mattress could have been upgraded, but was big enough that it wasn't terrible, a fire place, a little dining area, a full kitchen. Could it have been updated, yes- but it was clean and unique and totally cool to stay in. I felt a little like there could have been a kid riding a tricycle down the hall at any time- but it was fun. I will say that there was a herbaceous odor throughout the hall- but it never permeated our door. ;) It was very quiet. I would certainly stay again.
Nice hotel that is extremely well built. This 100 year old building will be here for a long time. Only 25% of the rooms are hotel. The rest is residential. The rooms are modern with a little kitchen stove, sink and fridge with microwave. The place is fully stocked with plates, cups, cooking and eating utensils. I didn't cook but I made coffee every day. It's quiet but the view is terrible. Looks out on parking lot and back of another building.
Charming boutique hotel with lots of vintage charm. The woman at front desk check in was super unfriendly. Based on other reviews, this is her usual lack of friendliness. The sheets in the room had some stains but seemed clean and the pillows were not great. Also noticed a bit of an odor but it wasn’t a problem and to be expected in an older building. The location was great and we really enjoyed the on-site restaurant, the Knick. Considering other reviews mentioned how unpleasant the person at check in is, I’m a bit surprised it hasn’t been addressed. Does she own shares in the hotel?
The building and room were charming, and the price was very reasonable. You can't beat the views, or the location. There were a few management hiccups, though. The staff, upon check-in, were not particularly welcoming. There was a strong and persistent smell of marijuana in our hallway. To top it all: we found a dirty pair of underwear waiting for us in our room (see photo). When we inquired as to whether the room had been cleaned and if it would be possible to receive a discount or meal to compensate for this rather icky inconvenience, the desk attendant shrugged and said there was nothing he could do. Conclusion: the building and location are great, but the staff could use some customer service training.
The knickerbocker was great! Very cool location with the wood doors and a kitchenette. Many things to do within the hotel. Our only complaint was that the door was hard to unlock and took some maneuvering to get open. Highly recommend to anyone staying in MKE!
